Birth doula work, for me, began when I was pregnant with my second child. I had the honour of attending a friend's delivery of her first child. I remember driving home after the birth and was overcome with emotion, saying to myself "I have to do this." It is still such a vivid moment in my memory after many years. That is when my doula work began.

I love to see women empowered to birth their babies where, how, and with whom they want to. Every birth and every mother and her family are unique. I love the work I do. Though it is not always easy, I would not change a thing. I am constantly amazed that this is my life.

I am also a Lamaze-certified childbirth educator and in my classes I love to see women engage in their pregnancies and feel like they have all the tools they need to birth their babies.

I am blessed that birth work chose me before I went searching for it. I am forever grateful to all the hundreds of mothers that teach me that birth is an art.

For as long as I can remember I have been fascinated by pregnancy and birth. After two vastly different birth experiences of my own I realized how important it is for a labouring woman to be heard, understood, and supported on her journey into motherhood. When my second daughter was born with the help of a midwife I was inspired to become involved in the birthing world. My dream is to eventually become a midwife but for now I am happy raising my 2 girls and serving families as a birth doula. I have completed my certification through DONA International and am excited to be supporting families in the Prince George area!

After the birth of my first child I couldn't get over how this experience had affected and changed me. I started reading more and more and by the time I was ready to do it again with my second pregnancy, I knew it was something that I wanted to be a big part of. But I couldn't just keep having babies. Listening to parents around me talk about their birth experiences made me realize the need for this supportive role. All I was hearing, time after time, was that women just wished that they had been supported and listened to more. When a woman feels heard and valued, she can walk away from birth feeling empowered. Even when it doesn't go according to "plan." After the birth of our third and final child I knew that it was time to pursue this passion that had been growing inside me. I am certified as a birth doula with DONA and a member of the Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association (CAPPA). Please check out my website for more information!

I believe that each birth is unique and will teach me something new. The invitation to be present at the birth of a child is always an honour for me. I look forward to working together with families in the future and hope that I can help make their birth experience a beautiful one.

Whether you are a first-time parent or have had many children, birth can be seen as scary and painful. Pregnancy and birth is one of the most natural and beautiful things childbearing humans were created to do; why be afraid? Some parents may even be completely ready for birth, but they don't feel heard or valued. That’s why I am here. I will educate you and your birthing team, as well as be your advocate. Becoming mothers and fathers is a huge transition. With the right intention, we can prevent trauma, whether you have a homebirth, a hospital birth or caesarean birth, with or without interventions. This is your pregnancy and birth, so let's return the power to you and your family.

I have always had a maternal instinct, which led me to doing a 6-month project on conception, birth and birthing interventions and post-partum care in school. Later, I started working for a midwife, observing her life and hearing all the powerful and amazing experiences she has lived. Within that time, a friend became pregnant at 16 years old. Being a young mother, she struggled, and I was there supporting her. When her beautiful baby girl was born, I looked into her precious baby eyes, and I knew I had found my calling. I was convinced that I wanted to be a midwife myself, but I was encouraged to take the path of becoming a doula first, to really understand the different perspectives within the birthing & post-partum community. So that is what I did. I enrolled in the Holistic Doula program, at Pacific Rim College in Victoria, BC, which is known to be the best doula training in Canada. I am a certified holistic birth and postpartum doula. I was raised in Prince George, and I am excited to be making a positive impact within my home community. I am ecstatic to share the knowledge I have obtained through my experiences, and I wish to bring empowerment to the birthing person and their families throughout this most sacred journey. As a mother myself, I am living this journey personally and I know what really needs to be acknowledged. I am back in Prince George building my business. My goal is to encourage a happy, healthy pregnancy, birth and transition into parenthood for my clients.

From the very first La Leche League meeting I attended when I was 14 weeks pregnant with my first beautiful child, I knew that I wanted to become part of the story that returned power to birthing women and their families.

I was unsure how I would find my way but the fire was ignited and my excitement of being with other powerful, eloquent, like-minded women paved the way to finding my passion. Not only did my time with La Leche League encourage and affirm me in my new role as a mother, but also in my role as an advocate and support for other women. I went on to become a La Leche League Leader, supporting and educating women about breastfeeding. As I served women as a breastfeeding counsellor, I became acutely aware of the transformative power of birth. Many, many women shared their birth stories and their hearts. I heard time and again of their triumphs or sadness which further fuelled my passion to serve families in their birth journeys as a birth doula. Wanting yet again to become part of a voice that helped encourage women to seek birth stories of respect and love.

I am blessed beyond my wildest dreams to share my life with my amazing husband and our three most beautiful children whom every day remain a constant source of pride, joy, adventure, and growth - our daughter Arielle 23 years, our son Seth 19 years, and our youngest daughter (Fifi) Ophelia 10 years.

I continue in my role as a birth and breastfeeding advocate and Birth Doula and am honoured and so excited to find myself amidst the company of such an incredible collection of compassionate, caring women, working together to begin to provide a place of connection, serving families in our community.

Please feel free to email or give me a call to find out more.

Doula work has always sparked an interest with me. It was after attending my best friend's birth, I fell into the doula role. Naturally, I moved through the motions of support and knew that doula work called to me. My heart belonged in healthcare. I feel there is a great need for support in many aspects during the pregnancy, birth and postpartum process. I started to piece together the physiology of birth and began to look at the inner workings of the various healthcare roles and how it affects families. This spiraled to me working on certifying as a doula. Currently, I am a certified doula and a breastfeeding counsellor and I am working towards my registered nursing degree. I am a mum of a beautiful boy and an aunty to many wonderful kids. In my spare time I love having family time, tending to my hobby farm, gardening or anything outdoors. I also love learning so you can often find me reading and researching. Being a doula has been the most wonderful educational gift.

It is truly a pleasure to be an advocate, educator and supporter for families. Doula work has fueled my mind for learning and has complemented my desire to be the nurse that is knowledgeable and caring. It truly has enlightened me, challenged me and given me so much joy to provide.

Birth Doulas - Working Toward Certification and Non-Certified

Many of us are working toward DONA certification. We've completed the initial training and are at various stages in the certification process. One part of this process includes submitting evaluations from births that we have attended as doulas, so we are very eager for the experience, and many are offering services at reduced rates while we gain this experience.

There are also some of us who are not interested in completing the certification process, but have taken the DONA training and have varying levels of experience in birth support.

Please feel welcome to contact any of us to find out more!

I became a Birth doula because birth work kept falling into my path. I attended births after my first son was born 5 years ago. After having a negative experience during my birth I wanted to advocate for other women and empower and support them so their journeys wouldn't be the same.

I am honoured birth work found me and truly believe every experience is unique and beautiful. I look forward to advocating, supporting, and empowering women through the birth process.

I also travel outside of Prince George for births (ie. Vanderhoof, Ft. St. James).

Please feel free to contact me anytime.

Pregnancy and childbirth has always amazed me and I have always been in awe of what a miracle it is to have a new life enter the world. I am the mother of two precious children and their births did not carry out as I had planned and we were much less educated at that time than we thought. How I wish I knew about Doulas at that time! Our family was in another country and we had a lot of decisions to be made and quickly. The support and care of a Doula would have changed the outcome of my deliveries and my experience had I known my husband and I had an advocate for us, someone who presented information, and helped us make informed decisions.

Before children, I volunteered at the Pregnancy Center in Colorado for 2 years and quickly learned that pregnancy is not always straight-forward and that each pregnancy, and woman, is so unique. It was my privilege to walk with these women in their journeys. During that time, I was fortunate to attend one of the mother's deliveries and be her support. It was amazing! She was amazing! Since that time I have had a desire to be involved with child birth, but wasn't sure how. Ever since I found out about the role of a Doula, I knew I needed to become one.

I have always felt drawn to serve and help people and I am so excited to have found this path and am so inspired to serve the women and families in our community. I believe that the knowledge of a Doula, along with assisting women emotionally and physically, allows the mother the best opportunity for success and a beautiful birth story. I am currently in the process of DONA certification and would love to be part of your story.

Please feel free to contact me, I would be honored to support you.

I am a birth doula, a prenatal class instructor, and have been a surgical nurse for the last ten years. For as long as I can remember, I have been interested in birth work and supporting women and their families during pregnancy, birth and in their postpartum period. During my journey through birth work, I became aware of Hypnobabies ( a complete prenatal class that also teaches mothers self-hypnosis techniques to help create a powerful medical grade hypo-anesthesia, which can help provide a more comfortable labour and birth), trained as a prenatal class instructor, and now offer Hypnobabies classes throughout the year.

Please contact me for more information about myself, my doula care, and Hypnobabies classes:

I have completed the DONA birth doula training through Douglas College, and am working toward DONA certification. I am a mother of four children, and the beauty and power of the birth experience awes me. I believe that a supported woman is a powerful woman, and that when families are able to engage with their birth stories without fear, they bring to themselves and to their children a rare gift of strength and wonder. I believe that to cross the threshold into one's new life as a parent with confidence and joy, whether with your first birth or your sixth, is the ideal opening to life's great narrative.

When I was six years old, I saw the birth of my younger sister. It was such an interesting experience! Seeing the midwife work, and my mother's unusual behaviour (as my 6 year old self saw it) to bring this little being into the world. Since that time, I have been interested in birth and midwifery. At 14, I informally acted as a birth doula for my mother, while my youngest sister was being born. I did not actually know what a doula was at the time, but later, when I had the opportunity to take the training, it seemed like the perfect fit! I really enjoy working with families during this special time in their lives. My hope it to demystify birth and empower people to have a positive birth experience. In the future, I would like to go to Midwifery School and serve Northern families. For now, I plan to continue offering inclusive care for all families during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

My passion for this work began with my own experience, working with a doula at my own births. Her support meant so much to both my husband and I, and really allowed us to make the most of such a momentous time in our lives. It is my belief that all expectant mothers and families who desire this support should have it. Pregnancy and birth is very individual to each woman, and it is an honour to be welcomed to hold space and provide support during this beautiful, transformative stage of life. I would like to see many more women feel empowered by birth, in making the best choices for themselves and their families.
